Zoltan Tibor Berky, 69, passed away January 8, 2024.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Dr. Berky was an Orthodontist in private practice and the owner of Berky Orthodontics in High Point and Greensboro from 1993 through 2021. After the sale of his practices in December 2021 he continued treating patients in both High Point and Greensboro.
Dr. Berky attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1972-1976 earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree, as a Psychology Major with a Minor in Chemistry. He then attended the Dental School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1978-1982 earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
Following his graduation from Dental School, he was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps where he completed a residency in The Advanced Program in General Dentistry at Womack Army Hospital, Ft. Bragg, NC, in 1983. After serving at various duty he continued his professional training at Fort Knox, KY, and the University of Louisville, KY, earning his Orthodontic Certificate and Masters of Oral Biology Degree in 1993.
He served in the US Army Dental Corps for 22 years, retiring as a Full Colonel in 2004. During his 22 year career he also completed the Advance Officer Leadership School, Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Command and General Staff College. Finally, he was a Commander for Site “R” Dental Clinic-Top Security Dental Clinic linked to the Pentagon and Camp David.
Colonel Berky was awarded the following decorations from the US Army: US Army Service Ribbon, US Army Achievement Medal, US Army Overseas Ribbon, US Army Expert Field Medical Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal to name a few.
Dr. Berky was a member of numerous professional associations: 1995-2024 NC Association of Orthodontists, 1993-2024 American Association of Orthodontists, and1995-2024 American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Berky had been a licensed NC Dentist since 1982 and earned his distinguished Diplomate American Board of Orthodontics in 1995.
Zoltan is survived by his fiancé, Patricia Crawford of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Taylor Crawford Gibbs and Joe Gibbs of Asheboro, NC, daughter, Grace Crawford of Asheboro, NC, mother, Esther Berky of High Point, NC and brother, Peter G Berky and wife, Diana, of Portland, OR.
He is predeceased by his father, Zoltan Thomas Berky.
Zoltan and Patricia attended C4 of Asheboro. He was a Godly man with many scriptures written down to always pray over his loved ones and himself.
Dr. Berky loved soccer, having played at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to the following soccer organizations that he supported: UNC Men’s Soccer, Attn: Grant Porter, PO Box 2126, Chapel Hill, NC 27515 or Carolina Core Football Club (CCFC) the newly formed 501c3 Public Charity No Barriers Program making youth soccer free for all children in the Triad.
