Zena Byrd

Zena Mae Pope Byrd, 81, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro with Pastor Jeff Reece officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Born July 28, 1936 in Marlboro County, SC, Mrs. Byrd was the daughter of the late Willie Pope and Sadie Rainwater Pope. She was retired from Acme-McCrary Corp. Mrs. Byrd was a strong-willed hardworking woman who over came many hardships during her life. Survivors include her sons, Jack Tart of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Steve Tart of Oklahoma City, OK; brothers, Mitchell Leviner (Mickie) and David Leviner (Irene), both of Asheboro; grandchildren, Justin R. Tart, Dana L. Tart and James J. Tart, all of Surf City, NC, Wesley Tart, Ryan Tart and Stephanie Tart, all of Oklahoma City, OK; and special nieces, Connie Bush, Juanita Gordon and Judy Burroughs. Memorials may be made to Brenner Children's Hospital Philanthropy Office, PO Box 571021, Winston-Salem NC 27157-1021. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at Ridge Funeral Home. Her oldest son, Jack would like to extend a special thank you to her immediate family for the love and care given to his mother through the years.
