Winnie Harris Long

Winnie Harris Long, 79, of Asheboro, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Crestview Wesleyan Church, Asheboro, with Pastor Jerry Johnson and Rev. Brian Gawf officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Born on November 23, 1937 in Catawba County, NC, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Harry Gordon Harris and Hattie Warren Harris. She graduated from Bennett High School in 1956 and was the class valedictorian. She also played basketball and softball and was awarded the most valuable player. Mrs. Long worked for Stedmans Corporation, Texfi and later retired from the NC Zoological Park. She attended Crestview Wesleyan Church. She loved her Lord and her family. She enjoyed buying and selling antiques, planting flowers, doing crafts, nature, going to the lake, feeding the fish, looking for eagles. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her daughters, Kathy Hunt, Janie Long; sisters, Virginia Thomas, Ruby Oates, Ruth Kidd, Mary Thomas; brothers, Paul Harris, Harold Harris, and Fred Harris. Surviving are her husband, Joe Long of the home; daughter, Susan Webster and husband, Jim of Asheboro; son-in-law, Rick Reeves of Colfax; sister, Jeannie Hunt and husband, Jerry of Asheboro; extended family, Tim Webster and wife, Tina and their children, Haley and Ashley; Chris Webster and wife, Jenny and their children, Dylan, Peyton, Dane; Stephanie Reeves, Matthew Reeves; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Susan and Jim Webster.
