Johnnie Winfred (Winnie) Edwards Lamb, 78, of Asheboro, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Balfour Baptist Church in Asheboro. Winnie was a native of Sabine parish in Louisiana, born March 4, 1938, the daughter of John Ziegler Edwards and Katherine Pass Edwards. She graduated Valedictorian Noble High School, Noble Louisiana in 1956. She continued her education at Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, La in 1959 she graduated with a BA in Elementary Education. Winnie was a teacher in the Asheboro City Schools, Fayetteville Christian School, and worked at Carrie Pharr Day Care. She began her teaching career in Calcasieu Parish, Lake Charles Louisiana. She married John David Lamb of Asheboro in 1963, while director of Kindergarten and Youth at Northside Baptist Church, Bossier City, La. Winfred loved serving her Lord and Saviour through the Women's Missionary Union of the Baptist Denomination. She served as La. State Pres of Young Women's Auxiliary and leader of Acteens at Balfour Baptist Church. She served as leader of Randolph County Baptist Association Girls Auxiliary organizing a Girl's in Action Group at Forest Park Baptist Church in 1964-65. Winfred also served as WMU Direction at Balfour Baptist Church for numerous years. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a choir member. Teaching was something she enjoyed. She ended her teaching career in the Asheboro City Schools in 2008 as her health declined. Her hobbies were reading, painting, needlework and later genealogy. Winnie loved spending time with her grandchildren, and shopping and traveling with her friends. She was preceded in death by father, John Z. Edwards and brother, John L. Edwards. Winnie is survived by her mother, Katherine Pass Edwards; her husband of 53 years, John David Lamb; daughter, Betty Katherine (Becky) Lamb Harrill and husband, Fred; son, James Winfred Lamb (Jim) and wife, Suhkee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rebecca Sloan Harrill, Susan Ashley Harrill, Samantha Nicole Harrill, John Frederick (Freddy) Harrill and Caitlin Ha-Young Lamb. Visitation with the family will be in the church Fellowship Hall beginning at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service on Friday. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Balfour Baptist Church.
