Walt Cassidy

Mr. Walter Leon Cassidy, Jr., 55, of Seagrove, NC, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at UNC Hospitals. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, August 25, 2014, at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Bethel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Cassidy was born August 30, 1958. He was a graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School. He played basketball and baseball. He was a stellar athlete who received MVP and other awards. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Leon Cassidy, Sr. and brother Gary Eli Cassidy. Mr. Cassidy is survived by his son, Timothy Bittle, of Randleman, NC; mother and stepfather. Peggy and Richard Matthews; sister, Jaynetta Butler and husband, Gil, of Randleman, NC; brother, Tyrone Matthews, of Chicago, IL; aunts, Hortense Miller, of MD, Mary Cassidy and husband, Carl, of Seagrove, NC, Bonita Brady and husband, Cleo, of Seagrove, NC; nieces, Chelsey Butler, Casside Butler, Charley Butler, all of Randleman, NC, Loranda Foxx, of Staley, NC; uncle, Toddy Brooks, of Siler City, NC; cousins and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Monday, August 25, 2014, at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church and other times at the home of his parents. His friends may come by Ridge Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 1:00 pm. until 3:00 pm.
