Virginia Swing Roberts

Virginia Swing Roberts, 90, of Clapps Mountain Top, 450 Mountain Top Drive, Asheboro, died on April 30, 2012. The memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at 2pm at First E & R United Church of Christ where she was a charter member. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Vance Roberts at 601 Springwood Road. Virginia was born on September 15, 1921 in Hedrick's Grove, NC to Martha Jane Allred Swing and Alfred Lee Swing. She was a member of First E & R United Church's Della Haga Circle, Asheboro Woman's Club and was awarded the Randolph County Democratic Woman of the Year 1997. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, traveling and volunteer work, as well as working alongside her husband in real estate. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter V. Roberts. She is survived by her children, W. Vance Roberts, Jr. of Asheboro and his wife, Fay, and Janet Roberts Anderton of Raleigh and her husband, Landy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, W. Lee Roberts, Stewart H. Roberts and his wife, Cheryl, Stewart and Cheryl's daughters, Josie and Grace Roberts, and Lee and Stewart's mother, Molly Roberts, all of Asheboro. Virginia is additionally survived by grandchildren Taylor B. Anderton and Zachary V. Anderton and his wife, Rebecca; as well as Zachary and Rebecca's daughter, Margaret Ann Anderton, all of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Swing Hunt, of Asheboro. The family is grateful to Virginia's wonderful caregivers, Susan Strayhorn and Rosa Jester and many others, for their loving and compassionate care.
