Virgie F. West

Virgie Floyd West, 89, formerly of Asheboro, NC, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Moses Cone Palliative Care in Greensboro with complications from Alzheimer's. A native of Randolph County, Mrs. West was born on February 22, 1921 to George Hamilton Floyd and Minnie Estelle Moore Floyd in the Township of Tabernacle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Summitt and brothers, Roy Floyd and Archie Floyd. In addition to her career as a beauty salon owner-operator, Virgie loved to travel, was very artistic and enjoyed all types of crafts including crocheting, wood carving, oil painting, sewing, quilting, embroidery and needlepoint. She took great pleasure in gardening and flowers for which she had a "�green thumb' often sharing cuttings, plants and crops with family and friends. Survivors include her children, Martha McGill and husband Clarence McGill of Greensboro, Foy Lee West and wife Beth West of Asheboro, Gayenelle Gray and husband Robert Gray of Charlotte, grandchildren, Diana Lynch of Greensboro, Ron Cook of Winston-Salem, Keith West of Sophia, Robert Gray, Jr. of Cary, great-granddaughter, Keana Lynch of Greensboro and her brother Tildon Floyd of Trinity in addition to many nieces, nephews and other beloved family. Visitation will be held at Ridge Funeral Home, 908 Albemarle Rd., Asheboro, NC from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 31, 2010. A private service will be held in the chapel for immediate and extended family at 3:30 pm followed by interment at Randolph Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Walters Grove Baptist Church, 2610 Cid Rd., Lexington, NC 27292 or to the Moses Cone Palliative Care Unit 4500, 1200 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Brighton Gardens Reminiscence Unit and the Moses Cone Palliative Care Unit staff for the excellent care given and concern shown for their loved one.
