Mrs. Virgie Ethel Brown Lucas, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at GrayBrier Nursing Home in Trinity. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Randolph Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mrs. Lucas was born January 16, 1926. She was the daughter of the late O. E. Brown and Lillian West Brown. Virgie was a member of Union Grove Christian Church. She worked as a bookkeeper with two farm equipment companies and with the Asheboro City Schools. Virgie sewed, cooked, and kept her home clean and in order. Her household had three meals a day and always a dessert on weekends. She made the best buttermilk biscuits, along with her brown mountain cake and icebox pies! In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lucas; sister, Evelyn Cox; and daughter, Debra Pittman. Surviving are her daughter, Wanda Pegg and husband, Wayne; granddaughters, Kelly Ramey and husband, Chris, and Ashley Pittman. Virgie also leaves behind her sisters, Arlene Thomas, Patsy Cox and husband, Hilton, Carol Cox and husband, Gilmer, Nancy Hinshaw; and brothers, Joe Brown and wife, Lena, and Darrell Brown and wife, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2014, at Randolph Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff at GrayBrier and Hospice of Randolph County for the excellent care they provided Virgie.
