Vernon Russell Wilson, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away after a brief illness on May 10, 2026, at the age of 90, at the Randolph Hospice House.
Born on September 14, 1935, in High Falls, North Carolina, Vernon lived a life rich in love, community, and service. He was the son of Gurney and Pauline Wilson, who preceded him in death.
Vernon’s journey began in the small community of High Falls, where he graduated from High Falls High School in 1953. A talented athlete, he excelled in both basketball and baseball, demonstrating the teamwork and dedication that would define his life. He continued his education at High Point College, playing basketball and nurturing a commitment to learning that he carried throughout his life.
In the late ‘70s, he and his wife, Billie Callicutt Wilson, founded Wilson Realty and Construction. Together, they built not just homes, but legacies of quality and fine craftsmanship that stood as a testament to their shared vision and hard work. Vernon's dedication to his craft earned him accolades and respect in the community he so dearly loved. He was a member of Asheboro/Randolph Home Builders and Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699 for 60 years.
Vernon was an active and devoted member of the Asheboro Friends Meeting for over 60 years. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing a foundation of strength and kindness that touched all who knew him.
A man of many passions, Vernon was an avid golfer, a writer of many heartfelt poems that he shared with family and friends, and he loved a beautiful lawn and his koi pond.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Billie, whose partnership was a source of strength and joy. He is also survived by his daughters, Joan Chartier (Ken) and Kim Wilson, of Myrtle Beach, SC, his sister, Carol Dunn of Jamestown, NC, and many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
A service to celebrate Vernon’s life will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Asheboro Friends Meeting, located at 230 E. Kivett Street, Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends in the church parlor prior to the service; from 1:45– 2:45pm. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Randolph for which they extend their immense gratitude to the compassionate nurses and staff for the care and comfort they provided in his final days.
Vernon Russell Wilson’s enduring legacy of love, integrity, and faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. May his memory be a blessing to us all.
