Vernece Ruth Leach Willett, 80, of Asheboro, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Hall and Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Vernece was born on June 6, 1942 in Randolph County to the late James Leach and Nealie Spencer Leach. She was the principal of Franklinville Elementary and the assistant principal of South Western Randolph High School. She loved and taught the Bible and was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed riding her motorcycle. Vernece had a love of gardening and was a master gardener, and she was a member of the board of Randolph County Extension Services. In addition to her parents, Vernece is preceded in death by her sisters, Inez Teague, Alva Jean Scott; and brother, Jimmy Leach. She is survived by her husband James "Bub" Willett of the home; sons, Jeffery Neal Willett and wife Ruth of Asheboro, Jeremy Ryan Willett of Asheboro; grandchildren, Elizabeth Willett, and Michael Willett. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
