Velva Learlene Garner

Mrs. Velva Learlene Edwards Garner, 65, of Seagrove, NC, died Monday, September 5, 2011, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Union Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Chaney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Henry County, VA, Mrs. Garner was born October 29, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Earl Carper Edwards and Clarissa Juanita Payne Edwards. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. She and her husband were married August 7, 1993. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Lisa Berkhead. Mrs. Garner is survived by her husband, Delbert Ray Garner, of the home; daughters, Wanda Allen and husband, Lee, Rhonda Slycord and husband, Phillip, Brenda Cooke and fiancé, Chris Suits; sons, Christopher Garner and wife, Christy, Anthony Cooke; grandchildren, Michael Cooke and wife, Anna, Joshua Prater, Brian Cooke, Jessica McKenzie, Kortney Prater, Chelsea Akines and husband, Jim, Jessie Slycord, Ethan Filler, Makahla Slycord; great grandchildren, Wesley Cooke, Wyatt Cooke, Waylon Cooke, Kaden Cooke, Shine Cooke, Brian Cooke, Timothy Paul, Mia Paul, Brycen Filler, Layla Suits, Londyn Suits. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
