Vellie Hill, 103, of Asheboro, formerly of Silver Valley, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Charles Lackey officiating. A private burial will be held at Walter's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Born November 12, 1914 in Davidson County, Mrs. Hill was the daughter of the late Jim and Allie Grubb Hill of Silver Valley. She was a homemaker and a good cook, she made the best buttermilk biscuits. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Hill; son, Dale Hill; grandchildren, Donna Bishop, Dwane Hill; sisters, Rosie Garner, Sadie Hughes, Eula Hulin, Josie Perdue, Pauline Hoover, Texie Black; and brothers, Walter, Jack and Billy Hill. Survivors include her sons, Darrell Hill and wife, Carole of Mocksville, Jerry Hill and wife, Elaine of Thomasville; daughter, Texie Hill Criscoe of Archdale; sister, Bertha Hoover of Asheboro; grandchildren, Cathy Hunt, Jeffrey Hill, Tammy Davis, Tina Swain, Scott Klass; 14 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
