Capt. U. F. "Bert" Cavaletto, (Ret.), 91, of Seagrove, NC, lost his battle to cancer on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at his residence. He has won his place in paradise. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Seagrove, NC, with Rev. Russell Brownworth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Tucson, AZ, Capt. Cavaletto was born January 26, 1923, the son of the late Amadeo and Sara Flores Cavaletto. He retired as a captain from the US Air Force and had worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. While in the Air Force, Capt. Cavaletto trained astronauts in survival including the original eight astronauts. He had also served during World War II, where he was a prisoner of war in Germany, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he was the superintendent and a teacher of Sunday school. In addition to his parents, Capt. Cavaletto was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Cavaletto, his brother, Oscar Cavaletto, and his sister, Hortensia Doctors. Capt. Cavaletto is survived by his wife, Marie Cavaletto, of the home, daughters, Sue Ann Schroder, of California, Cathy Ajeman, of Henderson, AZ, son, Michael Cavaletto, of Newport, NC, sister, Magdalena Bautista, brother, Eddie Cavaletto, of Tucson, AZ, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Seagrove, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Randolph County Prison Chaplaincy Program, PO Box 2665, Asheboro, NC 27204, or to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 5474 Pleasant Hill Road, Seagrove, NC 27341.
