Tommy Thorn

June 19, 1944 — October 20, 2012

Mr. Tommy Glen Thorn, Sr., 68, of Asheboro, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 20, 2012. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Arnett officiating. Burial will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro. A native of Autauga County, AL, Mr. Thorn was born July 19, 1944. He was the son of the late William Henry Thorn and Mary Jewel Johnson Thorn. He graduated from Marbury High School in Autauga County, AL in 1962 and Piedmont Bible College in 1976. He also held degrees from Randolph Community College in Electronics and Kansas State University in Food Technology. He was a devoted member of First Christian Church in Ramseur, where he taught Sunday school. He was a scholar of God's Word and shared his testimony with many throughout his life. He faithfully shared God's love with all who would listen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thorn was preceded in death by his brothers, William H. Thorn, Jr., C. Richard Thorn and Danny H. Thorn; and sister, C. Marie Tyler. Mr. Thorn is survived by his loving and caring wife, Evelyn Beane Thorn, of the home; daughters, Lois Beane, Aleisa Beane, Rebecca Lynn Williams and Tammy York and husband, Ricky, all of Asheboro; sons, Tommy Glen Thorn, Jr. and wife, Lori, of Reidsville, Danny Thomas; brothers, Freddy A. Thorn and wife, Carolyn, of Booth AL, Truman C. Thorn and wife, Helen, of Prattville, AL; sisters, Mary Ruth Thomas, of Chico, CA, Sara M. Stockli, of Birmingham, AL, Shirley A. Wachtel and husband, John, of Deatsville, AL, J. Faye Thorn and Kaye Thorn, both of Prattville, AL; grandchildren, Cynthia Beane, Chris Beane, Jeremy Beane, Alexis Smith, Katie Johnson, Ray Beane, Mikey Beane, Valerie York, Sam Thorn, Helen Thorn, Jayme Little, Holden Thomas; great grandchild, Halla Beane. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at First Christian Church and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, Missionary Fund, 1381 Church Street, Ramseur, NC 27316.
