Thurman Henry Jenkins, III, 51, of Asheboro, died Saturday, December 31, 2022 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at West Asheboro Church of God, Asheboro, with Pastor Travis Cooke and Rev. Matt Gunter officiating. Burial will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC.
Henry was a 1997 graduate from John Wesley University with a bachelor's degree in Christian Education. He worked as an assistant teacher with elementary students and later worked with adults with special needs. Henry was an avid reader. He enjoyed reading Christian fiction, devotionals, and especially the Bible. When he wasn't reading, watching sports was his favorite past time. Anyone who knew him knew he was a diehard UNC fan! He also cheered on the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Redskins. He was a devoted fan whether his team was winning or losing.
Henry was a faithful member of the West Asheboro Church of God for 29 years. Throughout the years, he served as a teenage Bible quizzing coach, youth Sunday School teacher, church bookkeeper, and faithful member. He will be greatly missed by his church family.
He loved his family and got great joy in being a Papa to Kinslee and Landry. They always brought a smile to his face.
Even though he was so often hindered and trapped in a body that failed him, it did not stop his love for Jesus and His Word. Although he could not run or walk in this physical life, he ran this spiritual race to the finish line.
2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith."
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Thurman Henry Jenkins, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Thurman Henry Jenkins, Sr. and Maggie Jean McAbee Jenkins; and maternal grandparents, Stanley David Hall, Sr., and Elsie Lee Hall.
Henry is survived by his wife, Dina Jenkins; daughter, Melissa Willien (Kevin); grandchildren, Kinslee and Landry Willien; mother, Jacqueline Hall Jenkins; sister, DeeDee Woolard (Mike); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, at West Asheboro Church of God, prior to the funeral.
Thank you to the nurses and staff at The Randolph Hospice House for the kindness and care they showed to Henry and the family.
