Thurman Jenkins

Dr. Thurman Henry Jenkins Jr. , 65, of Denton died Monday, March 12, 2018 at his home. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at North Gaston Church of God, Dallas, NC with Rev. Michael Woolard, Rev. Matthew Lewis, Rev. Andy Nicholson, Rev. Travis Cooke, Rev. William Wooten, Rev. Hank Conner and Dr. Ken Bell officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, NC. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Kings Mountain, NC Dr. Jenkins was born February 22, 1953, the son of the late Thurman and Maggie Jenkins. He was a 1971 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and in 1981 he graduated from Gaston College with an Associate's degree. Dr. Jenkins continued his education at East Coast Bible College where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies in 1984 and in 2002 he earned his Master of Arts in Church Ministries from the Church of God School of Theology. Lastly he completed his education with a Doctor of Ministry in 2011 from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary. Dr. Jenkins has served the Lord faithfully since 1974. He is an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God and has served the church in various capacities, such as pastor, evangelist, and Director of Evangelism and Home Mission for Western NC. He served on the State Council, State Evangelism Board, and the Church of God Home for Children Board. He retired from pastoral ministry in 2014 and evangelized the gospel until his death. His hobbies included deer hunting, golfing and tinkering with classic cars. Above all he loved preaching the gospel and seeing souls won to Christ. His race is over and he is now receiving his reward. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jackie Jenkins; son, Henry Jenkins and wife Dina of Asheboro; daughter Dee Dee Jenkins Woolard and husband Mike of Asheboro; grandchildren Melissa Jenkins Willien and husband Kevin, Aaron, Micah and Abigail Woolard; sister Joann Jenkins Hall and husband Jerry of Bessemer City, NC; aunts, Grace Lamb, Rose Price and Ruth Ledford; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers, David, Jim and Joe Lovette; grandson, Adam Woolard. Receiving of friends and family will be Friday, March 16 at 6 p.m. at the West Asheboro Church of God located on Lewallen Road in Asheboro and again on Saturday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at the North Gaston Church of God, 1310 Dallas Cherryville Highway, Dallas NC. Memorials may be made to the Denton Church of God, PO Box 1311, Denton, NC 27239. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
