Thurman Lee Floyd, 83, of Asheboro, died Thursday, September 1, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church with Rev. Jeff Garner and Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born August 18, 1933 in Randolph County, Mr. Floyd was the son of the late Edgar and Dora Floyd of Trinity. He loved gardening and music. He had a passion for woodworking, whether it was building a house, cabinets, or teaching a grandchild how to make an airplane out of two sticks and a nail. Mr. Floyd was married to Reba Hoover on September 1, 1951. He was the best daddy and papaw on earth and now in heaven. In addition to his parents, Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Lee Floyd; sisters, Lois Manns, Mozelle Rayburn; and a great-grandson, David Spisak. He is survived by his wife, Reba Hoover Floyd of the home; daughters, Judy Albright and husband, Carroll of Asheboro, Sandra Willoughby and husband, Jim of Denton; son, Gerry E. Floyd and wife, Rebecca of Asheboro; sisters, Dianne Pierce and husband, Dempsey, Harriett Pullum, Gladys Brent, all of Trinity, Sue Garner and husband, Grady, Doris Cox and husband, Lavon, all of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016 and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
