Mr. Thomas Garland "Tom"� Ballentine, 98, of Asheboro, NC, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, December 2, 2012, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Sylvia Wilhelm and Rev. Susan Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Union County, NC, Mr. Ballentine was born January 26, 1914. He was the son of the late Rosa and Will Ballentine. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, retired from B. B. Walker Shoe Company and a member of American Legion. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ballentine was preceded in death by his sister, Lessie Williams, and his brothers, Harry Ballentine, George Ballentine and Bill Ballentine Mr. Ballentine served in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Ballentine is survived by his wife, Oneta Humble Ballentine, of the home; daughters, Margaret Edmonds Brown and husband Eddie, Jo Ann Edmonds Dickens and husband, Jerry, Rossie Edmonds Locke and husband, Gary, all of Asheboro, NC, Ruth Edmonds Harris and husband, Harold, of Denton, NC; son, William "Bill" Ballentine, of Asheboro, NC; step-son, John Edmonds, of McLeansville, NC; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; nieces, Kathy Rosa, Rosa; great-niece, Leah. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
