Thelma Ann Hughes Smith, 80, of Asheboro, NC, died Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at High Point Medical Center in High Point. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro. with Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Farmer Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mrs. Smith was born August 28, 1938, the daughter of the late Henry Wilson and Annie Bertha Varner Hughes. She had worked as a seamstress. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Smith; brothers, Charlie, Walter, Gene, Hubert, Robert; sisters, Carrie and Lucy. Mrs. Smith is survived by her sister, Jane Cheek of Asheboro; brother, Don Hughes and wife, Alma, of Seagrove; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018, at Ridge Funeral Home.
