Pastor Terry Wayne Kersey, 71, of Greensboro, NC, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Born April 19, 1944, in Greensboro, Terry's love for God, family, and friends permeated his entire life. He had joy in his heart and was known for his positive spirit and sense of humor. A native of Greensboro, Terry attended John Wesley College in High Point, NC, where he met the love of his life, Linda, before furthering his Bible studies and earning his degree at Guilford College. Terry touched many people in his 40 years of service as a Quaker pastor, serving at Mountain View, Winthrop, Plainfield, Providence, Oak Hill, and Bethel Friends Meetings. As a pastor, he was known for the way he weaved jokes and funny stories into his sermons, or had his congregation repeat a stanza of a hymn he didn't think they sang with enough enthusiasm and joy. A die-hard Washington Redskins fan, Terry loved to watch sports and movies with his children. He enjoyed retirement on his family's farm, surrounded by horses and grandchildren. Terry battled health obstacles his entire life, and was a testament to the power of prayer and positivity. A favorite verse of his was Psalm 118:24, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Terry was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Linda Toombs Kersey; his son, Terry Kersey, Jr. and wife, Jennifer; his son, Josh Kersey, and wife, Jeanette; his daughter, Katie Kersey, and husband, Datus Rwechungura; his brother, David Kersey and wife, Nita; his brother, Tony Kersey; and six grandchildren, Josh, Ben, and Nate Kersey, Madelyn and Ella Bailey, and Benjamin Rwechungura. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Oak Hill Friends Meeting in High Point, NC where Terry served as pastor for 17 years. Pastor John Sides, one of Terry's closest friends, will preside. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 11454 or Oak Hill Friends Meeting, 2001 Westchester Blvd., High Point, NC 27262.
