Sonya May Johnson Sherman, 77, of Trinity died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at The Randolph Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at The Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Crownsville, MD. A live stream of the memorial service will broadcast at 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1475 Fisher Ferry Rd., Thomasville, NC 27360. Born November 21, 1938 on a farm in Wellsboro, PA, Mrs. Sherman was raised to be a hard worker. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Runy Johnson. After graduation she worked at Davis Furniture Store in Wellsboro until her marriage to Eugene Sherman on February 6, 1959. Sonya dedicated her life to Jehovah God on November 7, 1954. In 1961 she started full time pioneering and in 1963 she became a special pioneer spending 150 hours a month and in 1978 entered the circuit work until 2013. Due to health issues Sonya returned to special pioneering and continued until the time of her death. She served alongside her husband in the circuit work for 35 years. When visiting congregations she had a gift of helping the inactive and the elderly. She was also exceptional in motivating young couples to enter the full time service and many now are pioneers and circuit overseers due to her dedication. Sonya is survived by her husband, Eugene of 57 years; two fleshly sisters, Sandra Shivas of Seagrove, and Rebecca Boles of Pensacola, FL; several nieces and nephews; many cousins and a large spiritual family. She is also survived by many friends that extend over many states. She was dearly loved and respected by many. Her fine example of a Christian wife and sister will be remembered by all who knew her.
