Shirley Jones

Shirley Rose Kinlaw Jones, 83, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Randolph Health in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. Jon Reece and Rev. Ray Lambe officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Born in Randolph County, NC, on August 29, 1935, Shirley was the daughter of the late Junius Luther Kinlaw and Delia Florence Thompson Kinlaw. She worked at Randolph Community College from 1973 until her retirement in 1996. Prior to that she worked at Carolina Power & Light and the Randolph County Register of Deeds. She was a faithful and long time member of Back Creek Friends Meeting, where she had served as Treasurer and choir member. Shirley was a loving wife and mother who filled their home with love. When her children were small, she encouraged them to run, play, and didn't mind if they got dirty. As they grew she supported their interests and goals. This love and support for her family continued until her death. She had a sunny disposition and was also encouraging to others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry R. Jones. Surviving are her daughter, Sarah Lynn Jones, of Knightdale; son, Thomas Michael Jones, and wife, Carla, of Liberty; granddaughter, Sarah Michelle Jones, of Liberty; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Back Creek Quaker Men (for the Good Neighbor Fund), 147 Back Creek Church Road, Asheboro, NC 27205. The family would like to thank Shirley's niece, Cindy Jones, for all the care and love given to her over the past four years.
