Sarah Currin Loftis

March 22, 1922 — October 9, 2024

Sarah Currin Loftis, 102, passed away peacefully to join the Lord in Heaven on October 9, 2024. She last resided in Jacksonville, Florida at her son's home and subsequent three years at San Jose Gardens Memory Care Community. She was born March 22, 1922 to Ruby Woody Currin and Arthur Alexander Currin in Oxford, NC. Sarah was raised on a farm with 5 siblings and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College (now ECU). She taught home economics for many years before becoming a stay-at-home mother. She married the late Charles Braxton Loftis of Mebane, NC on September 23, 1945. Together they made homes in many locations up and down the east coast including Rocky Mount, NC, Jacksonville, FL, Silver Spring, MD, Syracuse, NY and Detroit, MI before returning to Winston Salem, NC in 1970. Sarah and Charles raised two boys, Charles B. Jr and Paul Alexander. In Winston Salem, Charles Sr. retired and they often welcomed their two children and three grand-children.

Sarah was a dedicated mother and homemaker in the older tradition. She enjoyed sewing her own clothes, cooking, gardening, raising vegetables and flowers and providing bird baths for avian travelers. When attending East Carolina Teachers College in the early 1940s, she assisted in catering lunch to the visiting Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1959 she obtained an automobile driving permit, but never drove alone. Sarah survived her husband Charles of 58 years, by 21 years, her parents, and all her siblings. She is survived by her 2 children Charles Loftis Jr. (Candy) of St Johns, Fl, Paul Loftis (Sandra) of Asheboro, NC, and her grandchildren, Arthur Loftis (Celina) of San Gabriel, Ca, Alexander Loftis (Amaris) of Santa Monica, Ca and Nicole Dombrowski (John) of Denton, NC.
