Ruth Hanenberg, of North Pointe of Asheboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Mark Key and Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD. Mrs. Hanenberg was born on January 1, 1924, in Clifton, NJ, and resided in Paterson, NJ, and Okland, NJ, before moving with her husband to Derwood, MD in 1965. She retired from Bechtel Corporation of Gaithersburg, MD and in 1986 moved to Grove Isle at Vero Beach, FL, where she lived until 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Trina Grunstra, husband, Marinus "Rin" Hanenberg, daughter, Judith Ann Schelle, sisters, Bertha Grunstra, Helen Mara and Alice Lotz. Survivors include her daughter, Joan Williams and husband, Steve, of Asheboro, NC, grandson, Curtis Schelle and wife, Barbara, great grandchildren, Hannah and Rachel Schelle, all of Royal Beach, FL, brother-in-law, Thomas Hanenberg and wife, Isabel, of Hendersonville, NC, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, #999, Charlotte, NC 28215; Central U.M.C., 300 S. Main St., Asheboro, NC 27203; Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
