Ruta Spivey

Ruta Dace Barzdins Spivey, 73, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2026, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 908 Albemarle Road, Asheboro, with Rev. Dr. Keith Less officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

Mrs. Spivey was born in Randolph Co., NC, on November 10, 1952. She built a meaningful career as a highly talented charge nurse at Randolph Hospital, where her deep compassion comforted countless patients. Her capacity for care extended far beyond the hospital walls. Mrs. Spivey was an avid enthusiast of German Shepherds. Her devotion to her dogs was clear to everyone who knew her, culminating in the proud achievement of winning first place in a dog show.

Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by her parents, Edgars Felix and Skaidrite Makevics Barzdins, and her brother, Richard Valdis Barzdins.

She is survived by her husband for 40 years, Donald Spivey; brother, Juris Barzdins (Phyllis); nephews, Daniel Barzdins, Stephen Barzdins; great nephew, Matthew Barzdins; great niece, Abigail Barzdins; sister-in-law, Faye-Dean Hurley (Litchard); and close friends, Ron and Debbie Callicutt.

The famiy will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Ridge Funeral Home.
