Roy Edwin Rettinger, 94, of Concord and formerly of Asheboro, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. A graveside service for Roy will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2020, at Randolph Memorial Park with Rev. Doug Hefner officiating. The service will be livestreamed and available for viewing on Ridge Funeral Home's Facebook Page. Military honors will be provided by Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Halifax, PA., Mr. Rettinger was born August 27, 1926, the son of the late Clarence and Bessie Paulus Rettinger. He had retired from the US Army after 20 years and having served in World War II. Roy was in the Special Forces as a Green Beret in the 82nd Airborne. He later retired from the state of North Carolina. He was a certified master gardener who loved his shrubs and his Japanese Maple Trees. Roy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rettinger was preceded in death by his wife, Wileen Underwood Rettinger, and brother, Jim Rettinger. Mr. Rettinger is survived by his daughters, Nina Coughlin and husband Mike, of Greensboro, Rhena Glenn and husband David of Asheboro, Teresa Rettinger of Concord; sister, Betz Matter of Alabama; grandchildren, Nikki Callicutt and husband Jeff, Andy Coughlin, Daniel Coughlin, Chris Coughlin; great grandchildren, Lauren Callicutt, Taylor Callicutt, and Kathyryn Callicutt. The body will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020, at Ridge Funeral Home.
