Roger Luther

February 6, 1945 — December 29, 2020

Roger passed away and went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday evening, December 29, 2020, after a short illness. Roger was a beloved husband, Poppie and friend. Anyone who knew Roger, knew him as a compassionate and humble man. He loved his family and he loved his fellow man. Throughout his life, he touched many lives. He was born to Wiley Raymond and Rosa Freeman Luther on February 6, 1945 in Montgomery County. He was the youngest of their five children. Roger served as a Fireman with the Asheboro Fire Department for 30 years. He also owned and operated Roger Luther’s Floor Sanding until his death. Through his career and endeavors, he had a gentle and kind influence on the people around him. Roger was a long term member of Browers Wesleyan Church in Asheboro where he attended and worked faithfully. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Alison Luther Lusk; his son, Roger Jason Luther and his brother George Luther. Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his wife of 51 years, Alice Phillips Luther; son-in-law, Reverend Todd Lusk and daughter-in-law, Erin Luther. He was and will always be “Poppie” to his six grandchildren: David Lusk (Jessica), Nicholas Lusk, Darrin Lusk, Caroline Lusk, Zoe Luther and Charles “C.R” Luther. He is also survived by his 3 siblings: Allene Hall, Robert “Bobby” Luther (Barbara) and Shelby Morris. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday January 5, 2021, at Browers Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Bryant Madren and Pastor Todd Lusk. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Mr. Luther will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m., Monday January 4, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. The family would like to thank the many friends and family that helped take care of Roger in his last days. We extend our sincere appreciation to Hospice of Randolph County. In lieu of flowers donations in Roger’s memory can be made to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC, 27203, or to Browers Wesleyan Church, 1734 Mack Road, Asheboro, NC, 27205. As we celebrate Roger’s Life, it can not be neglected to acknowledge Roger’s sense of humor. So, let’s remember one his favorite jokes. “Why do firemen wear red suspenders?....To hold their pants up.” Thanks, Roger for being you!
