Robert J. Scherer

LTC. Robert Joseph "Bob" Scherer, 68, of Denton, NC, died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Randolph Hospital. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Garner officiating. A native of Schenectady, NY, LTC. Scherer was born November 28, 1943. He was the son of the late William F. Scherer and Anna Fitzpatrick Scherer. LTC. Scherer retired from the US Army as an aviator and comptroller and also served during the Vietnam War. He later retired from the Randolph County Public Schools as director of County Facilities and Maintenance. He enjoyed flying, scuba diving and loved animals. Bob was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. LTC. Scherer is survived by his wife, Lynn Scherer, of the home; son, Ryan Scherer and wife, Kristie, of Denton, NC; sister, Joyce Quigley, of Wallingford, CT; brother, William Scherer, of Albany, NY; grandsons, Braden Scherer, Deacon Scherer; and his dogs, Nicky and Princess. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
