Robert (Bob) Allen Parks passed away in his sleep at the Chapel Hill Rehabilitation Center, Chapel Hill, NC on Thursday, March 1, 2012. A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Monday, March 5, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marion Boling officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Carroll County, VA, Mr. Parks was born October 9, 1938. He was the son of the late Allen Lloyd Parks and Hattie Thelma Leonard Parks. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1956 and married Floetta (Flo) Wood from Randleman, NC on August 4, 1959. After four years in the US Air Force, Bob and Flo bought a house in Asheboro, where they lived until his death. Bob worked at the General Electric/Black and Decker plant in Asheboro from 1963 until he retired in 2001. He and Flo cared for his widowed mother, who lived across the street from them, from December 1984 until her death in 2005. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Christene Parks Simmons. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Flo Wood Parks, of the home; brother, Walter Gray Parks, of Springfield, VA; sisters, Betty Lee Parks Easter and her husband, Carl, of Cana, VA, Doris Parks Hughes, of Asheboro, NC; brother-in-law, George Simmons, of Asheboro, NC; 14 nieces, 2 nephews, 9 great nieces, 13 great nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister, Doris Hughes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 1366, Asheboro, NC 27204; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
