David Rickey "Rick" Adams, 65, of Seagrove, NC, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will conducted 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2015, at Union Grove Christian Church, Asheboro, NC. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Kidd. Military honors will be performed by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Pikeville, KY, Mr. Adams was born November 23, 1949, the son of the late Delmon and Augusta Burnett Adams. He was a graduate of the Seagrove High School, class of 1968, and had retired as a prison guard. Mr. Adams has served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was wounded. He was a P.O.W. and later escaped and helped other prisoners also escape. He received the Purple Heart among other medals. While in the Army, Mr. Adams served in the 101st Airborne and Rangers and was also a sharpshooter. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his brothers, James Emerson Adams and Clarence Robert Adams. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Adams, of the home, daughters, Ruth Ann Kearns, of the home, Tammy Darlene Kearns, of Asheboro, NC, Crystal Dawn Ponce, of Dallas, TX; brother, William Ray Adams, of Aberdeen, NC; grandchildren, Bryan David Kearns, Derek Ray Kearns and Alisha Louise Kearns, whom he helped raise, Cody Alan Kearns, Christopher Ponce, Jeeze Rojas, Anjel Rojas, Tristen Kearns; and four great-grandchildren A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, NC.
