Rev. Virgil Maurice Kennedy

Rev. Virgil Maurice "Moe" Kennedy, 73, of Asheboro, died Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro. Maurice was born to Virgil Stanton Kennedy and Hazel Beane Kennedy in Randolph County and graduated Coleridge High School and Piedmont Bible College. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ramseur. Maurice served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, and was stationed in Germany for a year and a half. He was employed with Winn Dixie, Sara Lee Knit Products for 29 years, Victory Junction and Asheboro City Schools. Maurice served as a pastor at Community Baptist Church in Seagrove, Bible Baptist Church in Ramseur and Main Street Baptist Church in Biscoe. He also served as an interim pastor for many churches throughout Randolph County and surrounding counties. Maurice’s hobbies included fishing, traveling to the beach and mountains, watching Dale Earnhardt Sr. NASCAR races and Miami Dolphin football. He loved caring for his dog of 17 years, a dachshund, Romeo. Maurice was a friend to all and never met a stranger. Maurice is survived by his wife of 53 years Ann Garner Kennedy; son, Richard Bryon Kennedy and his wife Erica Kennedy, step-grandchildren, Reagan Johnson and Avery Johnson of Elkin; daughter, Lori Kennedy-Stewart and her husband Robert Stewart; grandson, Phoenix Stewart of Hampstead; sister, Jeanette Adams of Asheboro; and brother, David Kennedy of Greensboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Ridge Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Reeder, Rev. Ronald Coleman and Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park. Rev. Kennedy's body will lie in state from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Ridge Funeral Home.
