Rev. Dr. Leonard H. Atkins

Rev. Dr. Leonard Hardin Atkins, 90, of Asheboro, died Thursday, July 30, 2020, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on August 2, 2020, at Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Rick Wilkie, Rev. Tommy Fuquay and Rev. Michael Ainsworth officiating. Entombment will be at Altavista Memorial Park in Altavista, Va. Rev. Atkins was born on March 13, 1930, in Rockingham Co., NC, to the late Howard and Bertha Atkins. He was a pastor for 40 years, a minister until his death, and had earned a Doctor of Divinity. Rev. Atkins assisted the adoption of Royal Rangers Boy's Ministry by the IPHC. He worked with the Rescue Squad and volunteered for various organization including the American Red Cross for many years. Rev. Atkins also served as a Hospice Chaplain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Creola Hutchens Atkins; brother, Wesley Atkins; sisters Alma Kellum and Alpha Bullins. Surviving are his wife, Linda Cranford Hamilton-Atkins of the home; children, Chrystal A. Hutcherson and fiancé Curtis Leffue of Altavista, VA, Imelda A. Lampley and husband, Mark of Santee, SC, Alan Atkins and wife Tracy of Richfield, UT, Ellis Atkins and wife Crystal of Statesville, NC; stepchildren, Krista Hamilton Martinez and husband Freddy of Asheboro, John Hamilton and wife Michele; grandchildren, Kimberly Ragland, Karen Hutcherson, Angela Todd, Jonathan Lampley and wife Rachel, Morgan Atkins, Nathaniel Atkins, Ashleigh Atkins, Charleigh Atkins, Samuel Nelson, Abigail Noelle; great grandchildren, Adam Ritter, Lyndsay Ritter, Samantha Todd, Alexander Lampley, Abigail Lampley, Andrew Lampley, Kristina Hamilton, Alex Hamilton, Logan Hamilton. Rev. Atkins will lie in state on Saturday August 1, 2020, between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home.
