Rebecca Brown Freeman (Brownie), went to Heaven on August 26, 2021, at the age 78 while residing at Clapp's Nursing Home in Asheboro, NC Brownie was born on Dec. 16, 1942, in Randolph County to Joseph Lester Brown and Edith Claudine Brown Hunter, who both preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her step father, Harry Hunter; and brothers, Stephen Lester Brown and Johnny Lloyd Hunter - all of Asheboro. She met the love of her life, Walter Freeman, Jr., when she was only 15 years old and by age 17 she had married him. They were married May 21, 1960 and spent 55 wonderful years together until his death in 2015. They both had a love for Rock and Roll and anything Elvis! There was always music playing in their home, making it a fun and welcoming place to visit! Anyone who stopped by felt loved and right at home. Their door was always open, and guests were always greeted with laughter and a "Coke-cola". They were members of the "Smiling Squares" square dance club for many years. Brownie was a very talented cake decorator and made many birthday cakes over the years. The most beautiful cake was the wedding cake she made for Tammy and Jimmy's wedding almost 40 years ago. It was stunning! Brownie and Jr. were like a comedy team. They played off each other and always had everybody laughing. Everyone loved being in the presence of this couple. A perfect pair is what they were and they are finally together again, now in the presence of Jesus. Brownie is survived by her two children, daughter, Tammy Freeman Mabe and husband Jimmy; son, Timothy Freeman and wife Tonia; four wonderful grandchildren, Amber Mabe, James Mabe and wife Lora, Kelli Freeman, Kasey Freeman and wife Olivia; and 11 adorable great grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Jake, Liam, Lealand, Gabe, Lyndon, Kaiden, Aryella, Aaleah, and Adelynn. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Science Hill Friends Meeting, located at 2421 Lassitier Mill Road, Asheboro with Rev. Michael Fulp officiating. In true Quaker style, anyone is welcome to share a story about Brownie during the service. Burial will be in the Science Hill Cemetery beside her beloved Jr. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
