Philip Randall "Phil" Brown, 81, of Asheboro, died Monday, December 6, 2021. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, of May 16, 1940, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Maurice and Leda Brown. He grew up in Granville, NY and often told stories to his children and grandchildren about growing up on a dairy farm, using outhouses, riding bucking broncos in rodeos, and life prior to electricity in his childhood home. He was a first-generation college student where he graduated with honors with an engineering degree from Clarkson College in 1964. He was married nearly fifty-eight years to the late Roberta (Chee Chee) Brown and then recently wedded to Ann Covington Brown. Mr. Brown moved to Asheboro in the early 1970s where he and Chee Chee raised four children together. Mr. Brown served in various leadership roles at First Presbyterian Church since 1972 with his most current role being a Sunday School teacher and Elder. He worked for Eveready Battery Company as an Electrical Engineer his entire career until he retired in 1998. For the past ten years, Mr. Brown volunteered at the Senior Center Tax Aide office helping hundreds of people file their taxes every year. He loved reading, solving Sudoku puzzles quicker than his grandchildren, and cooking for friends and family which impressed everyone who joined him for dinner. He embraced life in his retirement years by traveling around the United States and Europe, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and most notably playing golf, his favorite pastime. He was known for beating his golfing buddies in the “short game”. Phil is survived by his wife, Ann Covington Brown, his siblings Edith Jonas and Ted, Gerald (Jerry) Brown and Davene and Marlene Brown and Sue and sister-in-law, Madelyn Brown. He is predeceased by his brother Maurice Brown II.
