Pete Cotner

Raymond "Pete" Cotner, 74, of Sophia, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016, at South Plainfield Friends Meeting, Sophia with Rev. Hugh Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow in the meeting cemetery. Born March 24, 1942 in Chatham County, Mr. Cotner was the son of the late Raymond and Nancy Cotner. He was retired owner/operator of Cotner Cabinets and was a licensed funeral director formerly employed with Ridge Funeral Home. Mr. Cotner was a member of South Plainfield Friends Meeting and an active member of CLMS at Portsmith Island. He participated in the Adopt a Highway program for 27 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheri Darlene Cotner; brother, Richard Cotner; and brother-in-law, Cary Lloyd Richardson. Mr. Cotner is survived by his wife, Gail Allred Cotner of the home; daughters, Mundy Hernandez (Mike) and Lori Julian (Seth), all of Randleman; sisters, Athalee Ausley of Sophia, Bertha Teague of Franklinville, Mary C. Hill of Greensboro, Jo Ann "Jody" Hamlet (Joe) of Climax; brothers, William Cotner of Pleasant Garden, Jim Cotner (Lisa) of Climax; and grandchildren, Garrett Hernandez, Hailey Hernandez and Maegan Julian. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
