Joe Paul Smith was born 9/20/1928 in Asheboro, NC. He passed away 2/24/2021 at 6:41 a.m. from natural causes at 92 years of age, surrounded by his family in his home. Paul graduated in 1947, from Asheboro High School and soon after became a teacher, farmer and a skilled carpenter. He went on to teach Vocation Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) at Coleridge High School and was awarded teacher of the year by the class of 1968. Paul was a Master Mason with Marietta Lodge, No. 444 in Ramseur, NC. He was a founding member of the Randolph County Cattleman’s Association and served as president. Paul is preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Flossie Smith and survived by his sister Becky Cox and her spouse Norman (Fat) Cox. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Smith and by their children Monty Smith and Gary Dean Smith and granddaughter April Smith. He is survived by their two daughters, Paula Brady and her spouse Farrell and Dawn Smith. Their seven grandchildren include Gary Smith (Karen Smith), Billie Jo Hudson (JD Hudson), Traci Reynolds (Michael Reynolds), Heather Brady (Brian Williams), Melissa Martin (Eric Martin), Gabriel Poupore (Candace Poupore) and October Faircloth. Their great grandchildren include Nathan Brown, Kasey Smith, April Dowell, Jesse Fesmire, Jake Fesmire, Summer Smith, Noah Brown, Isaac Moore, Millie Poupore and Vera Poupore and their great-great grandchild, Aubrey Brown. Paul is also preceded in death by his second wife, Evelyn Smith and is survived by her children Mike Stout and Vic Stout. There will be no funeral, but a private family service only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
