Paul A. Jones

Mr. Paul Allen Jones, 84, of Seagrove, NC, died Friday, February 7, 2014, at The Randolph Hospice House. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Monday, February 10, 2014, in the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Ralph Gaines officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Surry County, NC, Mr. Jones was born November 14, 1929. He was the son of the late Monroe France Jones and Nancy Ada Fulk Jones. As a young boy, Mr. Jones moved to Seagrove with his family. He began playing the fiddle in his teen years and developed his style while making music with his brothers. Mr. Jones served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his tour of duty, he returned to marry his sweetheart, Lou Ella Butcher. Together they raised six children and in 1989 he retired from Randolph Electric with 35 years of service. Throughout his life he devoted much of his time to the bluegrass fiddle. He performed with various bluegrass bands, friends, and family. In recent years, he was heard at Clyde's, 705, Eleazer, Bluegrass Ridge, and other regional venues. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Lou Ella Jones; daughters, Nancy Voncannon and husband, Reitzel, of Seagrove, NC, Deborah Voncannon and husband, William, of Denton, NC, Paula Griffin and husband, Ron, of Asheboro, NC; sons, Duane Jones and wife, Vickie, of Ramseur, NC, Allen Jones and wife, Pamela, of Asheboro, NC, Gary Jones and wife, Sandra, of Seagrove, NC; brother, Hoyal Jones, of Ararat, NC; 17 Grandchildren; and 12 Great Grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
