Nancy B. Cotner

Mrs. Nancy Siler Beard Cotner, 88, of Climax, NC, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at her residence. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, July 22, 2011, at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Miller, Rev. Alanda Harris, and Rev. Neil Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Red Cross Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Chatham County, NC, Mrs. Cotner was born August 11, 1922. She was the daughter of the late John Richard Beard and Fleta Marie Brooks Beard. Mrs. Cotner attended Staley High School and retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Grays Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Grays Chapel Quilting Club. She was an outstanding quilter, avid gardener, and well known for her southern cooking and ability to grow beautiful flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Cotner; son, Richard Cotner; grandchildren, Anthony Caulder, Harold Cotner, Stevie Cotner, Sheri Darlene Cotner; brothers, Joe Beard, Willie Beard; and daughter-in-law, Janice Cotner. Mrs. Cotner is survived by her daughters, Bertha Teague, of Franklinville, Athalea Ausley, of Sophia, Mary C. Hill, of Greensboro, Jo Ann "Jody"� Hamlet and husband, Joe, of Climax; sons, Pete Cotner, and wife, Gail, of Sophia, William Cotner, of Pleasant Garden, Jim Cotner and wife, Lisa, of Climax; daughter-in-law, Brady Cotner, of King; brothers Alfred Beard, of Siler City, Lewis Beard, of Staley; sister, Mary E. Bray, of Staley; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Darlene Bratton for the care shown to their mother.
