Mrs. Mirdza Sprogis Preimats, 92, of Asheboro, NC, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at her residence. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, July 1, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Hall officiating. A native of Riga, Latvia, Mrs. Preimats was born December 15, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Ingrikis and Marija Sprogis. She attended a business school, culinary school and dance courses there. She left Latvia during World War II as the Soviet Union invaded. She lived in Germany and came to United States in 1950 and settled in Asheboro and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Her husband Walter, who died in 2000, was the structural engineer for many local and regional building projects, including the original Greensboro Coliseum, Lindley Park, Asheboro Middle School, Guy B Teachey Elementary School, and McCrary Elementary School. Mrs. Preimats is survived by daughter, Rudite Robinson and husband, David, of Okemos, MI; son, Peter Preimats and wife, Harriet, of Asheboro, NC; granddaughters, Marija Preimats Alford and husband, Clay, of Wilmington, NC, Jeana Preimats Bruchs and husband, Brian, of Charlotte, NC; great grandsons, Owen Alford, Camden Alford and Kieran Bruchs. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home.
