Mildred Cook Newsom

Mrs. Mildred Molly Newsom, 79, of Franklinville, NC, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at The Randolph Hospice House. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, February 22, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Miller and Pastor Jon Shook officiating. Burial will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Asheboro. A native of Bryson City, NC, Mrs. Newsom was born July 14, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Christopher Cook and Edna Vurdell Collins Cook. She was a homemaker, loved walking and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Bryce Newsom. Mrs. Newsom is survived by daughters, Sheila Lassiter and husband, Bill, Melicia Hudspeth, Marian Miller and husband, Rodney, all of Asheboro, Rachel Manring, of Franklinville; son, David Newsom, of Asheboro; sisters, Lucille Plummer and husband, Cecil, of Allentown, PA, Ella Mae Kirkland, of Whittier, NC, Faye West and husband, Robert, of Sophia, NC; brothers, Bobby Cook, of Whittier, NC, Kenneth Cook and wife, Laura, of Cullowhee, NC, 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Friday, February 22, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home.
