Michael "Mickey" Moore Deaton, 75, of Asheboro, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Staley United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Quate and Rev. Maxton Craven officiating. Burial will follow in Staley City Cemetery. Born in Randolph County, NC on February 14, 1941, Mickey was the son of the late Stamey Eugene Deaton and Madge Moore Deaton. He attended and played freshman baseball at UNC-Chapel Hill and then went on to play in the AAA baseball organization for the Dodgers. Mickey was one of the best defensive catchers. He was retired from Miller Supply Company and attended Staley United Methodist Church. He was a co-owner of the Mickey Mantle Mens Shop in Burlington. Mickey enjoyed playing golf and was known for his dry wit sense of humor. Surviving are his wife, Anita Burrow Deaton of the home; daughters, Angela Leslie Deaton of Sarasota, FL, Christie Deaton Cox and husband, Jason of Raleigh; sons, Michael Moore Deaton, Jr. and wife, Maria, of Sarasota, FL, Jonathan Stamey Deaton of Asheboro; stepdaughter, Melanie Stewart and husband, Travis, of Lexington; stepson, Rodney VonCannon of the home; brothers, Robert "Bob" Wayne Deaton and wife, Mary Louise of Raleigh, Stamey Christopher Deaton of Staley; grandchildren, Heidi Deaton, Bridgette Deaton, Joseph Bent, Tori Waynick, Hannah Cox, Sarah Cox; great grandchildren, Landon Glover and Colton Lamonds; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O.
