Michael J. Armstrong

Michael Junior Armstrong, 59, of Sophia, died Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at Greater St. John's Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Kearns officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Born in Randolph County, NC on March 5, 1957, Michael was the third child of the late Coolidge and Ruby Armstrong. He was retired from Sara Lee. Michael loved his dog Patsy and in his spare time he loved to do mechanical work. He enjoyed watching Westerns and fishing on his boat. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his life long partner, Maybelle Sanders; sister, Nancy Armstrong; and brother-in-law, Bennie Banks, Jr. Surviving are his siblings, Susie Banks of Sophia, James Armstrong of Greensboro, Kenneth Armstrong (Valerie) of Asheboro, Peggy Armstrong of Randleman; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at Greater St. John's Baptist Church and other times at the home of his sister, Susie Banks. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4 Oak Branch Drive, Suite A, Greensboro, NC 27407. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lewis and the staff the Randolph Cancer Center and the staff at the Randolph Hospice House for the care given to Michael.
