It is with great sadness we share the passing of Mary Elizabeth DeLorme Zmithrovitch on October 10, 2026 after a period of declining health. Mary was born April 26, 1938, in Troy, New York. Mary was the only child of Francis and Mary (Kinney) DeLorme.
Mary was raised in Troy and completed her schooling at Troy High School, where she met the love of her life Gilbert Murray Zmithrovitch, who became her husband in September 1957 and preceded her in death. Gil and Mary had three children, Darlene Turner, Gilbert (Ellen) Zmithrovitch and Karla (John) DeHont, who survive. Mary was also blessed with 7 grandchildren, Matt (Amanda), Kelly, Katrina (Cliff), Zach, Adam (Kaitlin) and Emma, and 5 great-grandchildren, Rona, Avery, Sam, Harrison and Mackenzie.
Mary was a homemaker while her children were growing up and then became a receptionist at Woodland Village, an assisted living facility in Troy, NY.
After many years in Troy, New York, Gil and Mary decided to move south to Asheboro, NC in late 2021 to escape the winters and be closer to their son and his family. Mary enjoyed their new home and climate, and sharing holidays and Sunday family dinners.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (curefa.org) or to Hospice of Randolph. A special thank you to Dr. Jaber Khan, who cared for Mary while she lived in Asheboro and to all the wonderful staff at GrayBrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Trinity, NC that provided loving care for Mary in the last months of her life.
Arrangements by Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro. A graveside service for the commitment of Gil and Mary’s cremains will be held at a later date.
