Mary Helen Nixon Vaughan, 67, of Asheboro, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at her home. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Charles Reeder officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Mary Helen Nixon was born to James Robert (Bob) Nixon of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Mary Virginia McCall of Mooresville, NC, in Mooresville on June 29, 1949. As a little girl she and her parents constantly traveled the East Coast of the United States and Canada, while her father worked various jobs. She only had a permanent home in Roanoke Rapids, after her Mother passed away when she was twelve, being raised now by her half sister. At fourteen she meet her soul mate, Pete Vaughan. They married in Greensville, Virginia, on October 6, 1966. In April, 1968 she had her first of two children. Her son, Brian Wayne, was born on April 18, 1968. Mary delivered her second child, a daughter, Tacey Renee, on June 26, 1970. She loved and adored her children, always wanting to give them so much more love and attention then she ever received. In May of 1970, she received her GED. She later went to Business College where she graduated with high honors. In the mid 1970's she went to work at Union Carbide, now known as Eveready Battery. Mary was the Time Keeper at Plant 2 for twenty or so years. She enjoyed her job and made many close friends with her co-workers. Her life with Pete and the kids went through highs and lows, as with most families, but the love within was always present. Every summer for the Fourth of July, they would pack up the car and take a wonderful week vacation. Where ever there was an amusement park, was where they were headed. She always made sure her children knew how much she loved and adored them. She would always say, "I did the best I could", never knowing how great she did. She was later blessed with three Grandson's. Spoiling them was one of her favorite things. She loved them so very much. Other than spending time with her family she loved working in her yard and flower beds. She loved her husband with all her heart and soul. When he passed in August of 2015, what little joy she had passed with him. She tried at a new life without him, but happiness was never found. She battled with several different illnesses through her life, but a fall in February of this year, left her ill and she couldn't bounce back. She became so weak she could no longer take care of her two dogs that she adored. They were her constant companions. Giving them up because she could no longer care for them, was the last her broken heart could take. The day of her passing, her daughter had told her "It was okay to go be with Daddy, he's waiting for you, and I love you enough to let you go". Her response was a simple "Thank you".
