Mary Ellen Shuping

Mrs. Mary Ellen Matthews Shuping, 85, of Asheboro, NC, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Saturday, August 31, 2013, in the parlor at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, NC. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, August 31, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, NC with Rev. Dan Ramsey and Rev. George Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro, NC. A native of Guilford County, NC, Mrs. Shuping was born December 4, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Wallace Matthews and Carrie Blanche Kirkman Matthews. She was retired from JC Penney and was the former organist at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. A graduate of Greensboro College with a Bachelors degree in music education. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, which she also taught. She loved walking, and making and meeting friends at Randolph Mall. She enjoyed going to Atlantic Beach to vacation at the Oceanana Family Resort Motel, getting sun and loved getting together with family, friends and the "Fun Bunch." Of course, she would always dress to coordinate from head to toe. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shuping was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Monroe Shuping, her daughter, Hope Shuping, and her granddaughter, Sandra Daye Phillips Brady. Mrs. Shuping is survived by her daughters, Susan Blanche Shuping, of Greensboro, NC, Sally Anne Shuping, Martha Ellen Shuping, both of Asheboro, NC; and son, Joseph Barrier Shuping, of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Trey Kirkman Shuping, Hayden John Shuping, Kendall Monroe Phillips, Andrea Elizabeth Christian Phillips, Torin Alexander Phillips; great granddaughter, Winter Beth Gaarn, great grandson, Alxavier Angelito Bailon.
