Mrs. Mary Ann Thompson Holt, 102, of Asheboro, NC, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Carillon Assisted Living. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, December 31, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Holder, the Rev. Susan Mitchell and the Rev. George Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. A native of Stanly County, NC, Mrs. Holt was born November 22, 1908. She was the daughter of the late Henry Turner Thompson and Etta Whitley Holt. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she organized the United Methodist Women in the 1940's and was a member of the Sunday School. She was a Grey Lady at Randolph Hospital and prided herself in volunteering. She was a member of garden clubs, taught knitting and crocheting, played piano and raised African violets well into her 90's. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a great cook and got paid $1.50 to test and rate recipes for Betty Crocker. She always had a positive outlook, was an incredible woman and had a wonderful life. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glen Holt, Sr., and her sons, Robert G. Holt, Jr., and David H. Holt. Mrs. Holt is survived by her daughters, Betty Holt Elliott, of Carthage, NC, Patty Holt Brown, of Gastonia, NC; daughters-in-law, Peggy Gallimore Holt, of Asheboro, NC, Helen Wood Holt, of Kernersville, NC; 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Ridge Funeral Home Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203, or to Carillon Assisted Living, 2925 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC 27205. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at Carillon Assisted Living and the staff and sitters at Home Instead for the excellent care.
