Mary Jane Baker Brown, 78, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Brown was born in Asheboro on October 3, 1945 to Marie and Cliff Baker. She was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Greensboro College. She retired from Asheboro City School as an ESL teacher.
Mary Jane was a member of First E & R United Church of Christ in Asheboro. She sang in the church choir, volunteered in the church office, taught Sunday School, was active with the youth program as well as the Back Pack for Schools program. She also served on the Church Consistory. In her leisure time she loved to work crossword puzzles and color cards to send to friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Eugene Brown and son, Evan Baker Brown.
Mary Jane is survived by a son, Ryan Baker Brown of Asheboro and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, January 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First E & R United Church of Christ, 221 Cliff Road, Asheboro, with the Reverend Dave Cash presiding. Visitation will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First E & R United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1002, Asheboro, NC 27204; or to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
Mary Jane requested that her thanks be extended to the staff of Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their care and kindness: to Eileen Meginty, Hospice volunteer, for her visits and understanding, and a very special thank you to James and Martha Murray, whose continued support was invaluable.
