Martha Merriman Yow

Mrs. Martha Ann Merriman Yow, 63, of Seagrove, NC, died Saturday, October 12, 2013, at her residence. A native of the Jacksonville, FL area, Mrs. Yow was born July 12, 1950. She was the daughter of Geneta Frisbee Merriman and the late Ross W. Merriman. She graduated from Ribault High School in Jacksonville, FL and had worked at Klaussner Furniture Industries and H & H Furniture of Seagrove. She also painted and carved for local potteries including Turn & Burn and Backwoods Pottery. Her church affiliation was the World Wide Church of God. Mrs. Yow had a lifelong passion for horses. She enjoyed gardening, belly dancing, drawing, painting, carving and sewing. She was a vocal soloist, participated in Community Theater, and baked cakes for weddings and special events. She loved being outdoors and traveling with her family. Over the years she opened her home to several exchange students. Mrs. Yow, in addition to her mother, is survived by her husband, Gregory Yow, of the home; son, Petty Officer First Class Christopher Yow, US Navy and wife, Amie Reyes Yow, of Lemoore, CA; daughter, Azalea Yow Edwards and husband, Joseph Edwards, III, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Yow, Jr., Sophie Edwards; brothers, Kirt Merriman and wife, Judy, of Sheboygan, WI, Boyd Merriman and wife, Gwin, of Aurora, CO, Robert Merriman, of Jacksonville, FL; and sister, Jan Marion and husband, Jim, of Suwanee, GA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Flag Springs United Methodist Church, 5852 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro.
