Martha York Allmon, 78, of Asheboro passed away on April 3, 2024, at Spring Arbor of Albemarle.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2024, in the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bryant Madren officiating. The family will receive friends preceding the service from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home. She will be entombed at Randolph Memorial Park in a private ceremony.
Martha was born in Asheboro on August 18, 1945, the middle of five siblings. Martha often reminisces of the time they spent together and the love they shared. They spent most all of their free time with family. Some small trips to the lake, mountains, beach, or reunions with large extended family, but mainly at home in the yard or garden, with ponies, horses or a few puppies. They spent many a Sunday after church listening to her grandfather Walter Saunders playing the banjo and singing hymns. Martha loves gardening, flowers and vegetables, which led to canning, making jelly, pies, salsa and tomato sauce for her famous lasagna. She was a great cook, but never really goes by a recipe and loved anything chocolate. Martha had many jobs over her career with GE / Black & Decker as a supervisor, Sheraton Finance, Randolph County DSS as a case worker, and even taught Microsoft office for a time at the community college. She was a hardworking, confident, no-nonsense kind of gal. Martha always likes to feel productive.
She taught Sunday school for many years for children. Martha kept the nursery, volunteered with the many church activities such as dinners, VBS, feeding the local football team on Friday nights, ladies bible study, or the many crafting adventures at Brower's Wesleyan Church in Asheboro. She was a faithful servant to our Lord and has spent a lifetime spreading his message and living by example.
Martha loved to sew, from making dresses for her girls when they were small, to dresses for herself to wear to their weddings, to curtains, pillows, doll clothes, etc. She also enjoyed crocheting blankets, candle wicking, cross stitching, embroidering, basket weaving, and creating keepsakes in ceramics such as a three tier Christmas tree, a chess set, and many more.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Homer York, two older brothers, James & Jerry, one younger brother, Ronald. Her father and all her brothers served in the military; and her husband of over 50 years, Frank Allmon.
Martha is survived by her three children, Lora Russell (Charles) of Randleman, Lane Allmon (Marie) of Mint Hill, and Donna Patton (Greg) of Asheboro; three granddaughters, Lauren Croswell (Parker), Brianne Allmon, and Morgan Allmon; one grandson, Spencer Patton; and and a younger sister, Diane Moore. She enjoyed watching them grow whether it was singing, theater, playing sports, girl scouts, eagle scout or graduating from college. She had encouraged them to suck it up and get things done. She was a strong, empowered, assertive woman that doesn't mind getting dirty or working hard. A role model for success. Since being at Spring Arbor her family has discovered she has a hidden talent for dance and a love for music.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:45- 1:45 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901; or to Browers Wesleyan Church, 1734 Mack Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Spring Arbor for their outstanding care, compassion, and love that they have shown mom and our family.
