Manley "Mo" Melvin Owens, 85, of Asheboro, died Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born in Randolph County, NC on June 15, 1932, Mr. Owens was the son of the late Manley Benjamin Owens and Bertha Mae Jackson Owens. He retired from Klaussner Furniture after 28 years of service. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling to the beach and the mountains. In addition to his parents, Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his sisters, Faye Luther, Hulda Saunders and brother, Johnny Owens. Surviving are his companion and caregiver, Fannie Moore of the home; daughter, Patricia Rich and husband, Dennis of Asheboro; sisters, Lois Jarvis of Asheboro, Gertie Shoemake of Greensboro; grandchildren, Douglas Rich and wife, Angela of Asheboro, Pamela Lucas of Ramseur, Kimberly Britt and husband, Greg of Star; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204; Zion Praise and Worship Center, 420 Skycrest County Road, Asheboro, NC 27205; or the charily of the donor's choice.
